We marvel at the written Word of God. What a masterpiece of writing unparalleled by anything man has done or ever could do. What makes it stand far above the words of man is that it is the living Word, the powerful Word, the healing Word, the Word of salvation, the Word bringing eternal life and deliverance to those that believe it.
When the Word of God is spoken on the lips of believing something dynamically exciting occurs. The power of God on written pages is unleashed.
The Thessalonians heard God’s Word and they assessed it not as man’s word, but as it is in truth the Word of God that works when believed. God’s Word lies dormant on the written pages of our Bibles. But it comes alive as we speak it out with believing conviction. God’s Word was designed to be put into action by believing lips that recognize its loving power of deliverance. The written Word comes alive when spoken with believing. Our opportunity is to build the knowledge of God’s Word in our mind to the point we confidently confess it out. Then we will see the power of God in manifestation. Unfortunately, some have limited themselves by their mental assent of God’s Word. Mental assent acknowledges that God’s Word is true and wonderful, but it never acts on it. Mental assent is like standing outside the donut shop desiring its contents, but not taking the action to go in. What helps us move from mental assent to believing God’s Word is simply speaking it out with conviction. As we boldly speak it out we convince our heart and produce powerful results. It was the spoken Word in the beginning that created the heaven and earth we know today.
The spoken Word of God gets results. We don’t want to be just readers of God’s Word. We want to see its power come alive in our lives. Confessing God’s Word out loud utilizes more of our senses. This helps build our conviction of God’s Word coming to pass. Remember, God’s Word is designed to produce results.
Confessing God’s Word out loud keeps your fellowship with God fresh and alive. And as you continue to speak it, you build your believing of it, and see more results. Retemorizing God’s Word is an invaluable exercise. As we speak the verse out loud it has a greater impact in our minds than reading them quietly. Our goal in remembering God’s Word is to experience the results of it. So, as we consistently verbalize out loud the truth of God’s Word to ourselves--such as by his stripes I am healed--we will get the results. Our persistence in declaring God’s Word breaks down any worldly resistance that tries to inhibit the Word of God living in our lives. When we confess out loud with conviction the truth of God’s Word it is like turning the key that opens the door to God’s deliverance. We bring the written Word to life by confessing it out loud. Our goal is to believe God’s Word. Believing produces the promises of God’s Word into fruition. So, how can we build believing?
It is to our advantage to speak God’s Word out loud, so that we hear ourselves declaring the powerful Word of God. As we consistently do this, we build our conviction of the Word being manifested in our life. Our minds are processing all kinds of verbalized words, images and thoughts. As it is processing all of this stuff the heart is making decisions. Our goal is that our heart is convinced of the written Word of God that comes alive with deliverance power when we confess it. Our confession of God’s Word calls for the promises of God to become manifested. Our confession is our boldness to speak openly and freely knowing God’s Word is and was designed for every believer to manifest the power contained therein.
I included the definition by E. W. Bullinger for the Greek word for “confidence” in verse 35. What we are learning here is that we boldly speak out claiming the promises of God. Then we need to have the patience to stay put until it comes to pass. In other words we just keep boldly confessing the promises in God’s Word and stay put until we see the results. (Look at I John 3:21 and 5:14 for other verses with this same word for confidence). Let’s challenge ourselves more and more to see the written Word of God come alive by confessing it out loud with conviction. God wants us to enjoy His Word and see it come alive for each and every believer. We just need to do our part, by putting God’s Word in our minds and then confidently declaring it to see it’s powerful results. - Bob Lindfelt |
