An important verse, to those who oversee in the Body of Christ, is Acts
20:28. “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the
which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which
he hath purchased with his own blood.”
I was thinking about the price paid for the church to which you and I
belong. In any business there is a very important investment: The start-up
expenses to get it going which is a large initial investment of money. For
many this is very crucial to come up with enough finances to really get the
business functioning.
We are all part of the family business as members of the one Body of
Christ. We all share in God’s desire “…to have all men saved and come to
a knowledge of the truth.” (I Timothy 2:4).
Our loving Heavenly Father invested the precious blood of His only begotten
son (I Peter 1:18&19) as not only the start-up capital, but to buy the
business “lock, stock and barrel.” Now we get to work in the business, not
as minimum wage employees, but as heirs and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ.
(Romans 8:17). What a deal!
It is very humbling to be reminded of what it took to obtain this wonderful
family business, we serve in. As a result of doing Romans 10:9, we got born
again and became family members. We did not have to go through some kind of
sophisticated employment application process. As a result of being a family
member, the truth of the matter is that “…He hath chosen us in him before
the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before
him in love.” (Ephesians 1:4). That is quite a job résumé, even before we
got started on the job!
Our benefit package is unsurpassed. We have exceeding great and precious
promises available now (II Peter 1:4). And the hope of Christ’s return at
anytime. (I Corinthians 15:52).
What a deal!
