Serving The Lord In Prayer

Prayer is an important means of Christian service. Jesus Christ always did the will of the Father. He sets a great example of making prayer a priority in our Christian walk.

Mark 1:35:
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed intoa solitary place, and there prayed.

Matthew: 14:23:
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Jesus Christ established a priority of taking time to pray. Of all the men on earth, Jesus Christ had the greatest demands on his time and life. He prepared himself for each new day. After ministering to the multitudes he went to a place alone to talk to his Heavenly Father.

Romans 12:1 exhorts us to “present our bodies a living sacrifice.” We present ourselves by making our lives available to love and serve God. We should wake up each morning with, “Good morning Lord, what can I do for you today?” We present ourselves to the Father in prayer.

Romans 12:12:
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation, continuing instant in prayer;

Continuing instant in prayer means to be steadfast, constant, always on our minds. We don’t pray just because we have a problem, but we praise the Lord for His goodness and love for us.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18:
Rejoice evermore.
Pray without ceasing.
In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Our Heavenly Father desires our fellowship. He wants us to be blessed, to express our joy continually. By praying without stopping, we express our thanks for everything God has done for us and we fulfill His will in Christ Jesus.

Now you might ask, “How can I pray without ceasing when I have such a busy schedule?” First of all, there is no greater service than to do the “Father’s business.” When we put God first the rest of our day is blessed.

Ephesians 6:18 and 19:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

When we pray in the spirit (speaking in tongues) we are able to make supplications and intercessions for the saints. We also pray for boldness to speak the Word of God to carry out the Father’s business.

By setting a priority to take time to pray to our Heavenly Father and being conscious of praying without ceasing we can make a great impact on the lives of those we love, as well as all saints. When we begin each new day in prayer with joy and thankfulness, we are truly making our lives available to serve the Lord.
