Seed

I marvel as I think of the results I get from burying a tiny seed in the dirt. The seed packet reads, “Delicious and nutritious fruit will appear within 92 days of planting.” Here is this little speck of a withered seed, and once it is buried and watered, it produces bushels of fruit in 92 days! Virtually every seed in life, from simple plants to sophisticated man, produces within itself the exact characteristics that are imprinted in that particular seed.

How God designed each and every seed and how it functions in the reproduction of life is so fantastically amazing. You and I came out of one egg and one seed that is smaller than the dot on the letter “i.” Yet, we believe it. We accept it. We keep on getting the same results that are sown within that particular seed. No matter how remarkable this all is, no one denies its reality.

Life and reproduction by seed all started in the beginning.

Genesis 1:11-12:
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Man, too, came by way of seed. God, also added another aspect of life for man that far outweighed his physical characteristics. God created in man His own image – spirit (Genesis 1:26 & 27). This made for an idyllic lifestyle. Man having spirit could fellowship with God Who is spirit (John 4:24). This wonderful relationship came to a screeching halt when Adam and Eve did the one thing God told them not to do. They ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and upon which the consequences were devastating: “thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:17). We know that physically Adam and Eve lived on for hundreds of years. What died was the spiritual connection they had with God. They lost spirit. This spiritual death had far reaching ramifications for all mankind to the extent God had to promise a redeemer to regain this relationship. This involved seeds:

Genesis 3:15:
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The realization of the coming seed was manifested when Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ. “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.” (Luke 1:31). God, utilizing seed, put His seed in Mary’s womb with all its imprinted DNA characteristics. Along with her characteristics within her egg, conception occurred to produce the lord Jesus Christ, the redeemer, the lord of our lives.

What is so remarkable for all mankind is that when they learn about the lord Jesus Christ and his accomplishments to fully redeem man, they can do Romans 10:9 and get born again with incorruptible seed!

I Peter 1:23:
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

When a person confesses Jesus Christ as lord and believes that God raised him from the dead he becomes saved, born again with seed. The new birth reality is just that – a new birth with seed. Just like how you got here the first time with seed from your father.

Being born again is not just some religious feeling or action. It is not just an acceptance by God. It is seed. It is permanent seed forever! Why? Because it is “incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” (I Peter 1:23).

When people read I John 3:9, they find it hard to accept. But if you understand that you are born of incorruptible seed that is perfect, then you can understand that that seed cannot initiate or commit sin.

I John 3:9:
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Our seed, within the new birth, is Christ’s seed. This is so fantastic to realize that we have abiding inside us the seed of Christ.

Galatians 3:16:
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

God’s love for us is so wonderful and pure. He has provided a way for us to be born again with Christ’s seed which cannot sin. It is not like our first seed that physically got us born. Now we are born again with incorruptible seed which provides us with an eternal relationship with God Almighty our loving Heavenly Father.

I John 5:1-5:
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Now when I plant seeds in my garden with expectations of luscious fruit, I also reflect with great thanksgiving for the seed of Christ within me that provides me with fruit for eternity.
