Jesus Christ is our “big brother” according to the Scriptures. Those
born again of God’s spirit are sons of God.
Galatians 4:6 & 7:
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your
hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir
of God through Christ.
Because we are both sons of God, we share the same Father – who is God
Almighty, the Creator of the heavens and earth. We also share the same
inheritance.
Romans 8:16 and 17:
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children
of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if
so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified
together.
Colossians 1:12:
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of
the inheritance of the saints in light:
Understanding and then believing who God is in relationship to us will open
great doors of satisfying fellowship and a life filled with great power, peace
and joy.
Our big brother knew who God was in relationship to himself. Jesus Christ
knew without a shadow of doubt that God was His Father.
One Biblical researcher counted 52 verses in which Jesus Christ called God
“my Father.” There are also many other verses in which Jesus Christ
addressed God as “Father” without the word “my.” After the Day of
Pentecost there are 8 times God is declared to be the Father of Jesus Christ.
A wonderful man of God, Dr. V.P. Wierwille, said many times: “You tell me
what you think of Jesus Christ and I will tell you how far you’ll go
spiritually.” This could also apply to what you think of Jesus Christ’s
Father as well!
So many people limit God because they do not see God as a gracious,
merciful, loving heavenly Father. They rather refer to Him as the policeman of
the universe. We need to fully realize and recognize that the truth of the
matter is that God is our Father … period! “Behold [an imperative or
command voice in the Greek with the word meaning: “not just looking at, but
the actual perception of”] what manner of love the Father [my
emphasis] has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…”
(I John 3:1).
Our life-style is not one of being a son of God with a loving heavenly
Father once a week for an hour or two. It is 24/7! This reality we should be
very appreciative of and walk out on no matter what the world tries to tell
us. We can boldly go to the Father at any time.
Hebrews 4:16:
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Sure our life-style now in this world is a challenge. We still sometimes
get sick, people still hurt us, events occur that shake us, but because our
relationship is not with the world but with God our Father, we can still
realize great power, peace and joy.
How Do I Fellowship With the Father?
Here are three wonderful ways to fellowship with the Father:
- Speak to Him. Our humble and loving approach to our Father
is through prayer. There are two types of prayer: prayer with our
understanding and prayer with the spirit which is speaking in tongues.
I Corinthians 14:2:
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto
men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in
the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
I Corinthians 14:14 and 15:
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my
understanding is unfruitful.
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the
understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the
understanding also.
- Listen to Him. There are several ways to do this. The first way
is to read His Word and let it speak to you. Next is to go to fellowships
that teach the integrity and accuracy of God’s Word and listen to it.
Also we hear God via the manifestations of the spirit, namely speaking in
tongues with interpretation and prophecy. The third way to listen to Him
is via the manifestations of word of knowledge, word of wisdom and
discerning of spirits.
- Live Love. God is all about love. It is an holy privilege to have
the love of God shed abroad in our hearts via the holy spirit (Romans
5:5). Our loving response is to walk in it. We do so by simply doing God’s
Word.
Ephesians 5:1 and 2:
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for
us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.
I John 2:5:
But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected:
hereby know we that we are in him.
The essence of having a humble approach to God is perhaps no better
communicated than in Ephesians:
Ephesians 3:14-20:
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ,
Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be
strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and
grounded in love,
May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth,
and length, and depth, and height;
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be
filled with all the fulness of God.
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask
or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
The Lord Jesus Christ knew exactly who he was and who God was – His
loving Heavenly Father. We, too, are sons of God of the same Father. God
also is our loving Heavenly Father. Therefore we can walk confidently with
power, peace and joy knowing we are as Christ is, a son of the loving
Heavenly Father.
II Thessalonians 2:16 and 17:
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath
loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good
hope through grace,
Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
