Today we are looking for role models and heroes. A role model is a person
whose behavior is imitated by others. A hero is a man of distinguished courage
or ability. This is especially important for young people as they develop
skills for successful living.
Jesus Christ is truly the greatest hero of all time and a perfect role
model for any man, woman or child.
At twelve years old Jesus knew: 1. That his Father was God. And 2. He knew
what his lifetime occupation would be. How did he know these things? He
searched the Scriptures that revealed to him that he was the son of God.
People search a lifetime to find their identities. We know Jesus Christ found
his by the time he was 12 years old. Jesus Christ is our great example. He is
our hero. We too find our true identities in God's Word.
In Luke 3:21-23 we read about Jesus Christ when he was about 30 years old
being baptized by John the Baptist. In this record God audibly told him he was
God's "beloved son in whom He was well pleased." God tells us in His
written word that we are beloved of God (I John 3:2). After Jesus Christ
received the gift of holy spirit during that time with John the Baptist he was
led into the wilderness and tempted of the devil for 40 days (Luke 4:1ff).
Here he sets a great example for us of fighting temptations with "it is
written". Do you think we can do that today? Jesus Christ is a wonderful
role model for us because he was human, flesh and blood just like you and I.
So, yes we can confront the temptations of the world with, "it is
written" and get the same results Jesus did.
Hebrews 4:14-16:
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the
heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast our profession
[confession].
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of
our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet
without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Let us do the written Word, and come boldly to the throne of grace!
My hero knew his identity and purpose in life. He walked by the spirit
allowing His Heavenly Father to direct his steps. He was tempted in all things
yet without sin. He fulfilled the Word of God so that you and I can enjoy life
as a son of God, carrying out the Father's business.
Let's walk in the footsteps of our hero Jesus Christ.
