Perhaps the greatest of all character traits of an individual, or a
society, or even a nation is integrity. Saying what one means and meaning what
one says unfortunately is a dying art.
It is common for people to lie to themselves by saying they will do
something, then not do it. The culture of virtually every nation is to
circumvent the standards of law by lying and cheating just enough to get an
advantage, but not enough to be called a serious crime. One example of this is
Mexico, where the standard of mordita is accepted. This term literally
means to put out as bait to bite. Culturally this is the means by which people
in business circumvent the law by using a bribe to get others to bite so they
can make money. It is dishonest, but it is the norm. This goes on around the
world. Recently in San Diego a highly regarded local congressman and Vietnam
military hero was found guilty of taking millions of dollars in bribes. It
shocked the community that such a reputable official would violate public
trust. Even the past president of the United States was caught lying on
national T.V. It was a disgrace that was later brushed off as something not
that bad. The bottom line is that people lack integrity.
“Man’s basic spiritual problem is the integrity of the Word,” said
Dr. V.P. Wierwille. What happens is we read our own mistrust of man’s word
into God’s Word. The integrity of God’s Word is far above man’s word.
“God is not a man, that he should lie…” (Numbers 23:19). God
means what He says and says what He means! We need to go to God without doubts
and hesitancy. We go to Him with unwavering trust. Let’s take God at His
Word.
Proverbs 3:5:
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding.
The Word of God will give us a firm rock in the sea of man’s
uncertainties and will enable us to have a safe harbor in the vast ocean of
speculation. The believing of the Word of God will make us certain in the
midst of the uncertainties of our times.
Psalm 25:21:
Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
Psalm 41:12:
And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before
thy face for ever.
Proverbs 19:1:
Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, then he that is
perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
