II Peter 3:18a:
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
These two outstanding subjects (grow in grace and grow in the knowledge of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ) should be our major focus as we renew our
minds to walk as sons of God. Let’s look at “growing in grace” in this
particular article.
The word “grow” means to increase. “Grace” means undeserved favor.
All that the born again one has is a result of God’s attitude of grace
toward us. We in no wise deserve any of God’s manifested love. Yet, because
God’s attitude toward us is grace, undeserved favor, we have been freely
given rights, privileges and responsibilities within the new birth realities.
Now our response is to forsake our selfishness and incorporate the attitude
of grace with others.
To help you grow in grace look at the following Scriptures within the
categories of:
What we have because of God’s grace:
Ephesians 2:8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Ephesians 1:6 & 7: To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein
he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of his grace;
I Peter 5:10:
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by
Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect,
stablish, strengthen, settle you.
How we should act because of God’s grace in us:
Romans 12:3:
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you,
not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but
to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of
faith.
Hebrews 13:9:
Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is
a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which
have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
Colossians 4:6:
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye
may know how ye ought to answer every man.
II Timothy 2:1:
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
Hebrew 12:15:
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of
bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be
defiled;
Hebrews 12:28:
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace,
whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
There is nothing more satisfying to the believer, than to do the Father’s
will. Our Heavenly Father’s will is that we walk in the grace that He has so
lovingly provided for us through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. That is
why in the first verse of this article it is also vital for us to grow
in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
