Psalm 62:5-8:
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from
him.
He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my
defence; I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my
strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before
him: God is a refuge for us.
Our lives are filled with expectations. Their fruition depends on the
stability of the source. God’s Word is never surpassed by anything man says.
We can fully trust in the promises of our Heavenly Father. He knows how to
work with children -- especially His!
The importance of expectations cannot be denied. It initiates action and
produces results in the future. Let’s look at Jesus Christ and ourselves as
God’s children dealing with expectations.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ as a young person was presented with some challenging
expectations learning about the prophecies of his life for the future. From
one standpoint he sees the pain and suffering he was to experience, and yet he
saw the glory of his resurrection and being at the right hand of God. His
understanding and acceptance of his mission in life at the age of 12 is
remarkable. He knew then he was to “be about my Father’s business.”
(Luke 2:49).
His expectations included the crucifixion, along with the glory of the
resurrection and being at the right hand of His Father. He had to deal with
that for a number of years. How did he deal with these expectations? “…Who
for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2).
Jesus Christ’s expectations were fully based on God’s Word. He
completely trusted His Father’s Words to come to pass. He was convinced that
after his death that 72 hours later God would be right there to raise him from
the dead and give him a new glorious body and have a place prepared for him at
His right side. Jesus Christ is our example, so that we too can have our
expectations based on the stability of God’s wonderful Word.
You and I
Until we learned about our Heavenly Father our expectations for the future
were probably filled with doubt and fear. But once we got born again (Romans
10:9,10) and learned our rights, privileges and responsibilities as sons of
God, our expectations soared! The Creator of the world was now our loving
Father.
Romans 8:32:
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall
he not with him also freely give us all things?
We tapped into a Father that loves to bless us.
Now our future is as bright as the promises of God.
Psalm 62 above encourages us to depend on God; to see Him as the rock of
our strength; to trust in Him at all times and open our heart before Him.
Thankfully we can now do these things as His dear children (I John
3:1&2). We can come boldly to His throne of grace in time of need (Hebrews
4:16).
The expectations we desire from God may be physical healing, mental health,
stable marriages, financial abundance, a successful job, success in school and
having more self confidence in the many things we may need or desire in life.
As we consider these needs or desires from God’s perspective, we realize
He has provided “all things that pertain unto life and godliness.” (II
Peter 1:3). That He “can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask
or think according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20).
Now it is up to us to believe God’s Will and Word for us to be blessed in
all categories of our life. God’s will for us includes physical wholeness,
mental wholeness, material abundance as well as the great spiritual realities
of eternal life.
Our believing expectations can bring to pass the power of God in all these
areas of our life.
We need to remember 24 hours a day:
1. Who we are - sons of God with power.
2. Who God is - our Heavenly Father who provides abundantly in all aspects
of our life.
3. God’s Word is true - when believed we manifest the desired results of
the promises of God.
Take a little time to have a genuine heartfelt conversation with yourself
and say, “soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from
Him. He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my
defense; I shall not be moved. God is my salvation and my glory: He is
the rock of my strength, He is my refuge. I will trust in Him at all
times; I will pour out my heart before Him: God is a refuge for me.”
(from Psalm 62:5-8).
