I recently looked through a couple of "Last Will and Testament"
documents that reveal what my inheritance is. It is not uncommon for
people to check out their inheritance and see what might be coming to them as
a result of the passing of a loved one. Really, it is a bitter-sweet feeling
looking at what our inheritance is because someone has to die before the
inheritance is available.
Our spiritual inheritance is quite unique because the required death has
already occurred.
"For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the
death of the testator."
(Hebrews 9:16). We do not have to experience a loved one dying. Jesus
Christ already laid down his life for us.
Hebrews 9:15:
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means
of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under
the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of
eternal inheritance.
As born-again ones we already have the inheritance. Jesus Christ has
already died. And God has raised him up to be ever with Him.
Look at how sure and intact our inheritance is:
I Peter 1:3 & 4:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which
according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away,
reserved in heaven for you,
And now all we are waiting for is Christ Jesus to come for us and
fulfill all that is promised to us:
Philippians 3:20 & 21:
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the
Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his
glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue
all things unto himself.
Isn't it refreshing to read God's Word and discover our inheritance in
Christ? We get a whole new spiritual body for eternity! Now that is
worth waiting for!
