God graciously gave to every man and woman the freedom to choose. I know
many times we are challenged by circumstances that are overwhelming but we
still can determine how we will respond to them. For example if I get fired
from my job, I can choose to sulk and feel sorry for myself, or I can see it
as an opportunity to get a better job.
As sons of God with the power of God within, we still have to choose. The
world and all its influences will try to gain superiority over our thinking,
but we still can take a stand, choosing the things of God over the world.
For example:
I choose to be moved by the events in God’s Word, rather than the events
of the world.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the
world through him might be saved.” John 3:16 and 17.
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:”
Ephesians 1:4.
I choose to grow up in Christ, rather than be tossed to and fro by man’s
doctrine.
“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro,
and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and
cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is
the head, even Christ:” Ephesians 4:14 and 15.
I choose to remember the last words Jesus Christ spoke before he ascended,
realizing the importance of me witnessing His Word. “But ye shall receive
power, after that the holy spirit is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses
unto me…” (Acts 1:8).
I choose to remember when I speak in tongues, that I am a son of God,
heaven bound and all hell cannot stop me from going. “The Spirit itself
beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.” (Romans
8:16).
I choose to remember that I have Christ in me and I am a member in
particular in the one body of Christ. (Colossians 1:27 and I Corinthians
12:27).
I choose to remember all the time that “In a moment, in the twinkling of
an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be
raised incorruptible and we shall all be changed.” (I Corinthians 15:52).
