I may be wrong on this, but the largest recorded gathering of angels took place out on a field just outside of Bethlehem.
There was no previous announcement for such a magnanimous event where the angel beings of heaven gathered at one time.
Of all the mentioning of angels in the Bible, this was one event that a huge number of them showed up.
Really, when you realize what was going on you would think that every angel being would want to be there.
The event? Shepherds “abiding in the field keeping watch over their flock by night.” (Luke 2:8) were confronted by an angel that announced to them, “good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.” (Luke 2:10) (Bold type my addition). What was the cause of this great joy for all people? “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11).
After some more instructions to the shepherds on where to find the Christ child, the savior of the world, the Scriptures declared: “a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “glory to God in the highest and on earth; peace and good will toward men.” (Luke 2:13 & 14).
Wouldn’t you have loved to be one of those shepherds, witnessing a multitude of angels praising God?
I bet every angel desired to be at this phenomenal event. They would not have missed it for anything. Perhaps, maybe all of them were there. It does say a multitude was present.
One other event that draws the angels together with great joy is when a person chooses to change his life and believe God: "...there is joy in the presence of angels of God over one sinner that repenteth." (Luke 15:10).
The angels did not know the full scope of what our lord and savior would be making available for mankind. Now, with a knowledge of God’s Word, we realize how tremendous a salvation Christ wrought for us.
If this event, the birth of Christ, was so magnanimous, that is it drew a huge crowd of angels, we too should recognize its importance in our lives. We could not attend the birth, but we can realize the results of his birth, death, resurrection and being seated at the right hand of God. The new birth realities that Jesus Christ made available for all mankind will be experience for eternity. With these truths we can praise God every second of our lives.
As the world celebrates the birth of Christ, may we speak in tongues much and praise the Heavenly Father for all He has done for us as a result of His Son's fantastic birth.
Luke: 2:14: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
