A ringing phone begs to be picked up. We run to answer that call because it could be a very important call and cannot be missed.
One who is born again has a calling much greater than any phone call. It is a holy calling from our Heavenly Father. You and I are called for a purpose that God has put into motion. Once we know it, the next step is to answer it with a resounding “So be it according to Thy Word.”
II Timothy 1:9a:
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace,
We have been called by God with a special calling.
I Corinthians 7:17 & 20:
But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
We are on God’s side. We worship and love Him for all that He has done for us through His son Jesus Christ. He has called us by His own decision.
Romans 8:28:
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
He has purposed not only to make us His sons, give us eternal life and provide us with holy spirit, He also has a specific purpose for each and every person.
Now if you are seeing this for the very first time and wondering, “what did I get myself into by getting born again,” don’t get too upset. It is our calling that gives us a fulfilling life in the here and now prior to the Jesus Christ coming back to gather us together to be ever with the Lord. Not only has God provided us with divine power for the present time of our life, but also called us to shine out in excellence.
II Peter 1:3:
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
What a calling! It is one of glory and virtue!
Our calling in Christ is a call to act, not just join a church as a member. God has called us to do fantastic and wonderful things for Him. It is a special calling; it is the High calling in Christ.
Philippians 3:13 & 14:
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
We have a responsibility to answer our high calling in Christ. How do we answer it? We lay aside the past and know that God forgives us for those things. Then “we press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
This takes effort and believing. It takes a realization that the true things of God are more important than the worldly aspirations of man. We are to walk worthy of our calling.
Ephesians 4:1&2:
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Pick up the call and be all that God has called you to be. Don’t put the call on hold or ignore it. You are too important to God not to answer your call.
When all is said and done it is not what we do in the world that will stand the test of time. It will be our faithfulness to walk worthy of God’s calling.
Don’t let the adversary, the evil one, talk you out of doing your sacred duty.
- Don’t let him use the past to keep you from answering the call.
- Don’t let him use other people to keep you from answering the call.
- Don’t let him use finances to keep you from answering the call.
- Don’t let him use failures to keep you from answering the call.
- Don’t let him use “being too busy” to keep you from answering the call.
- Don’t let him use shame and guilt to keep you from answering the call.
If God has called you to lead and coordinate a fellowship, then do it.
If God has called you to bring new people to the fellowships then do it.
If God has called you to do the bookstore for your area, then do it.
There is so much that needs to be done in the family of God. God has a calling and a job for everyone.
Answering God’s calling is not a one time event. It is a daily choice. It is something we should think of every day.
Answer God’s calling in your life. It is never too late to respond to your Father’s plan for your life. He has no greater joy than to see his children walk in truth. (III John 4).
- Bob Lindfelt
As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you,
as a father doth his children,
That ye would walk worthy of God,
who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing,
because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us,
ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth,
the word of God,
which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
I Thessalonians 2:11 - 13
