You are probably asking, what does “consummate” mean? Before we go any further, let’s find out its definition. The Webster Dictionary defines this word as such: 1. Complete in every detail: perfect. 2. Extremely skilled and accomplished. 3. Of the highest excellence or greatest degree.
Obviously our lord and savior Jesus Christ fully deserves this title. No man that has ever lived has done so much for his fellow man than Jesus Christ. He far exceeds the greatest person who has ever lived. No one comes minutely close to achieving as much as he has.
What dynamic acts of heroism makes him the consummate Christ and what can we learn from him that will enhance our lives?
- He always did the Father’s will without fail.
- As the son of God he became the perfect redeemer of mankind.
- As the perfect redeemer of mankind he provided a sonship relationship to those born again making them children of God.
- He provided a name like no other name by which man could not only be saved but be healed and delivered.
- He made it available for man to be complete in Christ.
1. He always did the Father’s will without fail:
Jesus Christ could not rely on his own natural abilities, but only on what his Father directed him to do. It was vital that he carried out the Father’s will.
John 4:34:
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
John 5:30:
I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
2. As the son of God he became the perfect redeemer of mankind:
Our lord and savior recognized his value and connection to God as His perfect son. Thankfully he acted with meekness and courageously paid the full price for man’s redemption.
I Peter 1:18 & 19:
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Hebrews 5:8 & 9:
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
3. As the perfect redeemer of mankind he provided a sonship relationship to those born again making them children of God:
Jesus Christ recognized that his purpose in life was to be the perfect redeemer to mankind. He opened the door for all mankind to receive a salvation; that made those who believe a son of God. This sonship relationship is unparallel in comparison to any religion on the face of this earth. Religion for the most part only offers bondage. Only the One True God and his son could make an intimate Father and son/daughter relationship happen.
Romans 8:14-17:
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
4. By his name man could be saved, healed and delivered:
God’s Word is very explicit on the power in the name of Jesus Christ. The following Scriptures declare the saving, healing and delivering power of the name of Jesus Christ.
Acts 4:12:
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
John 15:16b:
…that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Philippians 2:9 & 10:
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
5. We are complete in Christ:
As a result of having the perfect “author of eternal salvation” (See Hebrews 5:9), Jesus Christ, we are complete in Christ as born again ones.
Colossians 2:10:
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Our logical response to such a consummate Christ is to serve him and his Heavenly Father.
Hebrews 9:12-14:
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
The consummate Christ did it all for mankind in a superb way. We by God’s grace and mercy indentify with Christ. That is why we can be complete in him. Our lord and savior covered every aspect of our lives, so that we would be exceeding abundantly blessed above all that we could even think.
What a privilege to serve the Heavenly Father who so loved us and provided for us the perfect, the highest in excellence and the most complete savior. Truly Jesus Christ is the consummate Christ.
