Many have told me it is the most panoramic view in the county. As I drove through the state park I could only imagine what the view from Stonewall Peak would be. I arrived at the parking lot and prepared myself for an hour hike up this prominent mountain. From where I stood, surrounded by pine trees, I could not see much of the countryside. I was anxious to take on the challenge of climbing this peak to see this fantastic view for myself. I guess you could call me a visionary.
Two things had to take place for me to enjoy this fabulous view. I had to be a visionary to challenge myself and I had to take the action of going to the top.
- VISION. I had to first establish in my mind’s eye a vision of what it would be like at the top of the mountain. This would be my motivation to do the next step.
- TAKE ACTION. I had to be convinced enough in my heart that it was worth the effort to climb the mountain to reach the top.
We move ahead in life based on the vision we set in front us. If we have no vision our life is stagnant.
Proverbs 29:18a:
Where there is no vision, the people perish:
Throughout the Bible we see that success follows vision. Abraham had a comfortable situation where he lived, but God called him to move to a different country.
Genesis 12:1-4a:
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him;
As a result of Abraham following God’s direction and having God’s vision as his vision, he was blessed in so many ways.
Jesus Christ had vision for his life as set before him by God Almighty. As a result he took on the onslaught of the devil for the redemption of mankind. He saw past the tragic part and had the vision of being seated next to His Father in the heavenlies.
Hebrews 12:2 & 3:
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
As sons and daughters of God we too have vision for our lives. God put His spirit in us to accomplish something. First, He desired for us to know how valuable we are to Him. He wanted us to be a part of His goal of “all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (I Timothy 2:4).
He gave us the promise of the return of our lord and savior Jesus Christ, that we would have new bodies like his; that we would have rewards and crowns available for our service now.
We are a very blessed people to be a part of God’s family. As we take on the challenges set before us our thinking can be like the following verse:
Romans 8:18:
For I reckon the sufferings of this recent time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
We have much to be thankful for, now and in the future, as we work with God setting vision for what lies ahead.
As a result of being a son of God filled with the gift of holy spirit we have become unique visionaries. The spiritual realities far outreach the physical realities for us. “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6). Because of this, we are visionaries for the things of God!
God has called each and every person that is born again to be an active part of the Body of Christ. As believers, instead of setting goals based on worldly aspirations, let’s first have vision for moving God’s Word over the world and functioning as God has called us.
I Corinthians 2:12:
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Let's decide we are going to live for our Heavenly Father and have His vision, our vision (Word over the world, I Timothy 2:4).
