Answering the Call

E-mail Print PDF

Many Christians relate their conversion to Christianity as a dire search for God to rescue their sunken lives. Once God is found and a basic knowledge is gained people continue to feed themselves on God’s Word and grow in their relationship with Him.

There is an aspect of the relationship that all Christians have, but are not very cognizant of. While we were out there searching for God, He was also out there calling us to His family. Our loving Heavenly Father has desired our fellowship, so He has been calling us. It reminds me of the prodigal son’s father who was looking out for his son.

I Corinthians 1:9:
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Once God has called us, then we know He will continue to maintain that fellowship. The Father will not change His mind on us.

Romans 11:29:
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

“Without repentance” means He will not bail out on us and change His mind. He is stuck with us for eternity. This calling goes way back in the heart of God. Not only that, He called us with a specific purpose in mind. He must really care about us and have something very important for us to do.

II Timothy 1:9:
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

This verse is one of the most remarkable truths in God’s Word. He provides for us a fulfilling life as He calls us with a “holy calling.” We should be so grateful and motivated to respond to His purpose for us. The Father wants us to function heartily in His calling for us.

II Peter 1:10:
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Philippians 3:14:
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

After seeing God’s heart and desire for us to be a part of His life forever, we should not find it to hard to answer His calling and be all that He has called us to be in Christ. Nothing but our whole-hearted effort should be our response to such a loving and caring Father. Let’s answer His calling with a commitment to be our best for Him.

Philippians 4
:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway:
and
again I say, Rejoice.
:20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I Corinthians 15:52
