Our Connection to the Father

E-mail Print PDF

One of the most awesome privileges afforded a born again one is an open door to talk with the Creator of the Heaven and earth.

Those who have read His Word and see that God’s nature is one full of love, mercy and grace, will discover He thrives on having fellowship with the those whom He has called.

Proverbs 15:8:
…the prayer of the upright is his delight.

That being the case, our attitude of mind should be one of thankfulness. We can approach Him openly and freely realizing He desires to hear from us.

We should be excited about the privilege we have to go before Him without any sense of guilt or condemnation. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,…” Romans 8:1. Our prayers are what He wants from us. It is our prayers that connect us to the Father. It is our prayers that we thank Him. It is our prayers that we request His help for personal needs. It is by prayer that we ask His help for others.

Hebrews 4:16:
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

We do not approach God like a friend, or a neighbor, or a work associate, or a servant. We have the unique position of being His sons and daughters.

Romans 8:16 and 17a:
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; . . .

God has arranged for us to be His children. As a loving Father He wants to hear from His kids.

I Peter 3:12a:
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers. . .

Two ways to pray to the Heavenly Father

There are two ways by which believers can pray to God.

I Corinthians 14:14 and 15:
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

Praying in the spirit is speaking in tongues. Verse 14 is very clear about this. What a believer is able to do is to 1. speak in tongues – praying in the spirit. And 2. pray with their understanding, which is done by most people most of the time.

Many have missed the opportunity to speak in tongues because main line Christianity looks down on it. God on the other hand is highly in favor of speaking in tongues.

I Corinthians 14:2a
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: . . .

When you speak in tongues you know you are in direct contact with the Father. What a joy it is to be able to speak in tongues.

  • Speaking in tongues magnifies God (Acts 10:46).
  • Speaking in tongues is speaking the wonderful works of God (Acts 2:11).
  • Speaking in tongues is a means of giving thanks unto God (I Corinthians 14:16 and 17).
  • Speaking in tongues makes intercession for the believers (Romans 8:26 and 27).
  • Speaking in tongues is worshipping in the spirit (John 4:24 and Philippians 3:3).

These two ways of praying offer the believer a complete manner of connecting with God: giving Him thanks, magnifying Him, making requests for yourself and others. Our Father has put together a means by which everyone is blessed.

Let’s make our connection with the Heavenly Father count. We have no better person to look to. We have no better person to bear our heart to. Let’s continue to pray to Him in all things knowing He will keep our hearts and minds in peace.

Philippians 4:6 and 7:
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I Corinthians 15:52
