Once a believer learns the basics of what it means to walk as a son of God with all power, manifesting the love of God, there is really only one thing left to do – Continue!

A number of months ago I started a challenging project redoing my driveway. It consisted of breaking up the old cement and putting in paver bricks. The most demanding aspect of the job was to dig out the roots of a tree that has been there for over 30 years. It was easy to get started but the challenging part was to finish it. What it took was continuing.

As born-again Christians we are presented with the awesome privilege of living the more abundant life in Christ. But living God’s Word in this world is not always easy. It is easy to start, but continuing can be difficult.

Like so many things in life, it is easy to start but hard to continue on. The adversary does all he can  to stop you from developing your walk in Christ.

God’s Word exhorts the believer to not only get started in living the more abundant life, but to continue living it.

We see people all excited about spiritual matters as they begin to learn and walk. But, where are they after a year or two? For many they are overcome by the systems and ways of the world, and so they succumb and revert back to worldly living.

Thankfully we have a loving Heavenly Father Who behooves us and encourages us to continue on this spiritual road manifesting our sonship rights.

There are some key activities that God reminds us to continue doing. This was evident on the day of Pentecost and the days following, that God encouraged the brand new believers to continue walking in His glorious power.

Acts 2:42 & 46 & 47:
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Continuing in God’s Word (the apostles’ doctrine) and fellowshipping together by eating and praying together were key elements to successfully maintaining their new dynamic lifestyle.

Throughout God’s Word there are certain key actions that are encouraged to help the believers maintain their powerful walk with the Heavenly Father.

Continue in God’s Word

John 8:31& 32:
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

James 1:25:
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Continue in Believing (Faith)

Acts 14:22:
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Galatians 3:10:
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Colossians 1:23:
If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Continue in Prayer

Luke 6:12:
And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Romans 12:12:
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

Colossians 4:12:
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

Our Heavenly Father has given us so much in Christ. We are spiritually loaded! (See "New Things in Christ . . . Now and Later"). Our challenge is to continue to manifest our sonship rights.

Another important key in continuing, is to stay focused on God’s Word as our only source of truth and practice. We do not allow ourselves to be sucked into the worldly systems of living. We continue to believe God. We also stay in fellowship with our Father through prayer.

Speaking in tongues is direct prayer to the Heavenly Father (“For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:…” I Corinthians 14:2). Our prayer life must remain rich, fervent and of course, continuous!

By doing these things, it will help you continue to walk in the greatness of being a son of God for a lifetime.

RIGHT BELIEVING

Right believing is constantly knowing
God’s presence and power
are in you and with you in every situation.

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
