The Power of the Tongue

E-mail Print PDF

Out of the tongue comes the issues of life. No! Out of the heart comes the issues of life, but our tongue many times pours out what we feel and think within our heart. Controlling our tongue or what we say is vital to living God’s Word and lovingly fellowshipping with one another.

James 3:10:
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Unfortunately people are so quick to judge and speak out rather than wait and pray and then think the Word of each other. God’s Word sets the standard by how we should communicate with each other.

Ephesians 4:29, 31 & 32:
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

One of the attacks of the evil one is that he gets believers gossiping and talking negative about each other. We need to hold our tongue and measure our words with the love of God. As God’s children we take on His manner of speaking. Our Father is full of grace and integrity. “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt [means to have integrity], that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” (Colossians 4:6).

By far the greatest use of our tongue is to utilize it operating the manifestation of speaking in tongues, whereby you speak to God and bless and praise Him. Speaking the written Word of God is another way to exercise our tongue. Let’s focus on speaking loving words that will minister grace unto the hearers.

Philippians 4
:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway:
and
again I say, Rejoice.
:20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
